Lucille Clifton – won’t you celebrate with me

won’t you celebrate with me
what i have shaped into
a kind of life? i had no model.
born in babylon both nonwhite and woman
what did i see to be except myself?
i made it up
here on this bridge between
starshine and clay,
my one hand holding tight
my other hand; come celebrate
with me that everyday
something has tried to kill me
and has failed.

This piece reminds me that my existence is a testament to my resilience and the strength of the human spirit. In the face of adversity, I  persist and defy the forces that attempt to extinguish my light.

May this poem serve as a constant reminder to celebrate myself and others, honoring the journeys I have traversed and the triumphs I have achieved. I embrace the power of self-affirmation, cherishing my unique voice and recognizing the inherent equality in all.

In the sacred space of Step into the Nexus, I strive to cultivate healing, growth, and joy. May the words of Lucille Clifton’s poem continue to inspire me to unlock the limitless possibilities within my soul, fostering a spirit of curiosity, wonder, and childlike play.
