What I am Listening To

Friday Five

01. What types of portable audio devices do you use?

I have a 30GB iPod Video that I named ArdiPod. I also have many walkmans (tape players), cd players and two mini disc players that I have retired. Only the ArdiPod gets action now.

02. What format of music do you listen to most often?

I listen to 128 and 192 ripped .mp3s on my ArdiPod and my PCs the most.

03. How do you get your electronic music files? (pay service [i.e Napster, iTunes, eMusic, etc.], file sharing, artist/label web sites, etc.)

I do not purchase electronic music files these days. I used Napster in the good old days. I tried the paid version of Napster and I did not care for it. About 2 years ago I purchased a couple of albums electronically on Walmart.com. I only used that because a friend of a friend wanted the album.

04. What type of headphones do you use?

At my PC, I use the Optimus Nova 67 headphones and for my ArdiPod I use the standard earbuds. There are a pair of headphones that I would love to have, but they cost $99.00 retail at BestBuy *sigh*.

05. What is currently on your portable music player that you are using?

I currently have about 1,000 songs on ArdiPod. Way too many songs to list, but I have a lot of John Legend, Lauryn Hill, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu and so on...

Say ... and I think ... ?

1. President :: Barack Obama. 2008.

3. Embrace :: Long, passionate hugs. I love hugs.

4. Movie :: JT watched Alien versus Predator Requiem tonight. I was not very interested though. I would like to see The Great Debaters next.

5. Everything :: Lauryn Hill - Everything is Everything. Good song.

6. Profile :: A particular Myspace profile comes to mind at the moment...

7. Satire :: Stephen Colbert, The Colbert Report.

8. Erratic ::

Glacial Erratic

9. Costume :: I have never been to a costume party before. I would like to go dressed up as Cat Woman or something...

I Belong in 1951

in

Wow, I am more old school than I thought. And in 1951, my mom was not even born yet. But in 1951, there were no personal computers, broadband internet and cellphones... I so do not belong there.

Do over.

You Belong in 1951

You're fun loving, romantic, and more than a little innocent. See you at the drive in!

Be Like Claire

1. If you could do one thing in the world, what would you do?

I would become the United States Secretary of State.

2. If you could be any character from a book, movie, or television show, who would you be? Why?

I thought about this for a while and I kept coming up with nothing... but just now, Claire Huxtable from The Cosby Show came to mind. When I was growing up, I really admired her character and her husband, Dr. Cliff Huxtable of course. They raised a family of five children and had successful careers. I always wanted to be like Claire... and I still do, but minus all those kids. I may go crazy if I had five children. I think two is enough, but God willing I would love to have one more. And let us not forget, I do still want a law degree.

3. If you could change one thing in the world, what would it be?

I would end poverty. There are many other things I would end such as famine and nuclear warfare, but poverty stuck out the most.

4. If you could make out with one person of the same sex, who would it be?

Angelina Jolie *ahem*

5. If you could make out with one person of the opposite sex, who would it be?

Dwayne Johnson... hot damn.

Conditions Critical

1. Under what conditions can you have the perfect nap?

No music, no television, no other background noise, no children saying, Mommy, Mommy... and fighting, no telephone ringing and no one else talking to me (or trying to talk to me).

2. Under what conditions can you let most of your guard down?

Around people that I have known for a long while and I trust... then I can let my guard down.

3. Under what conditions can you do your best writing?

When I have some classical or jazz music playing in the background, something tasty to drink like a hot cup of green tea and no one disturbing me.

4. Under what conditions would you give away everything you own?

Everything? If I knew that I was going to die at a particular moment, then I would give away special items to loved ones.

5. Under what conditions would you kiss a stranger?

For $250,000. Enough to pay off the mortgage, other debt and buy a car.

Randomosity Redux

1. What is your favorite fruit?

My favorite fruits are peaches, strawberries, plums and red seedless grapes.

2. What is the last book you read?

My attention span is low these days. I will start reading a book then put it down for something else. The last attempt was a Zane book that I borrowed from a co-worker.

3. Do you like any of your school photos?

Only a handful of them. I like the kindergarten, 4th or 5th, 9th and 12th grade photos. The others make me cringe.

4. Do you ever blow dry your armpits to get the deodorant to dry quicker?

My deodorant dries instantly... people still use the wet roll ons?

5. What was the last film you watched?

The Lake House and Premonition. It was like Sandra Bullock night at our house... I really enjoyed The Lake House... weird but the romantic storyline was very nice.

Week 257

Say ... and I think ... ?

1. Mist :: I love waking up to a misty morning in the spring. Very relaxing and I enjoy the fresh air.

2. Eating :: I just finished eating a great breakfast that JT and I cooked. Turkey sausage, scrambled omelets, hash browns with cheese and fresh oranges.

3. Beacon :: Privacy concerns with Facebook Beacon. A lot of people were worked up.

4. Speaker :: We are going to need a new home theatre system for downstairs soon. The speakers are fine but the DVD drives on the receiver are messing up. They occasionally get stuck. I bought that as a gift for JT during our first Christmas together.

5. Episodes :: I am looking forward to new television episodes this month. Especially 24 on Fox.

6. Conference :: I have to admit that I will miss the opportunity to go the Legislative Conference and another training in Vegas, but I know I still made the right decisions in the long run.

7. Sneak attack :: I used to play Magic the Gathering during high school. Here is a Sneak Attack card:

Magic Sneak Attack

8. Medic :: Although television shows like House and ER do not fully represent reality in medicine, I think the shows are dramatic and compelling. If I was a doctor, I may not have the patience to watch them, as I would probably be picking out the mistakes all of the time.

9.Web :: Web 3.0? I did not even know that this term existed until recently.

10. 2008 :: With a new job that starts tomorrow and my birthday at the end of the month, I sincerely believe that 2008 is starting off proper and going to be a positive year for me.

Unconscious Mutterings

Week 255

Say ... and I think ... ?

Health :: Overall, my health is pretty good these days. I have been drink lots of green and black tea as well as drinking Danactive and taking my vitamins. If I could get used to an exercise routine then that would be great. And speaking of health... the twins' health is great. William has been doing very well since his surgery in September. He bumped his head at school the other day... scared the heck out of me. I called the doctor as soon as I found out about it. Dr. F. calmed my nerves a great deal. JT gave William some Tylenol for the pain and applied ice directly to the bump. The bump is nearly gone.

Tacky :: I think wearing boots during the summer is pretty tacky. The kind of boots that are meant to be worn in the snow.

Heels :: I wore high heel boots for the first time when I had an interview two weeks ago.

Yay! :: Regarding the interview mentioned above... I received a call this week. I got the job, yay!

Model :: I hope that am an excellent role-model for my children. When times are tough, it does not feel like I am. Raising children is the ultimate challenge in life.

Gather :: Friday evening, JT gathered all of the ornaments and Christmas decor. We decorated the tree before the children came home. They love the tree and all of the lights on the house.

Best gift ever :: Best gift ever? The birth of my twins. Best Christmas gift? The call I received this week for a new job.

Clients :: I only have a handful of clients for my small business, but perhaps 2008 will bring upon more opportunities and money.

Stomp :: William and Keisha occassionally stomp their feet on the ground when they do not get their way. Mom definitely does not approve.

Friday Five

Many people make a big deal about not being labeled. And yet, we all are, constantly.

1. Pick one label that you think does describe you (race, religion, hobby, etc.).

Researcher. I do a lot of research at my job and at home and I am damn good at what I do. And the most important label that describes me: Mother.

2. Pick one label that is often put on you, that you really think is inaccurate.

Stuck up. People at work think this of me until they get to know me.

3. Pick one label you wish could be put on you.

Wife.

4. What is one kind of label that you think is universally wrong to use (race, gender, height)?

Racist labels and derogatory labels about the disabled.

5. Labels, used intelligently, can be a convenient rhetorical shorthand for identifying how a given person will fit into (or react to) a given situation. Labels, used incorrectly, can be an excuse for dismissing the differences still inherent in the people to whom the label is applied. Discuss.

Huh?
