Well Umm Okay

I really did not mean to be gone for so long, but things happen like that.

A couple of good friends have positively pressured me into posting. Peer pressure is dangerous folks.

My overall health is okay, but my sanity is always questionable. The twins are getting over a cold and *drumroll*... pink eye. JT took them to the hospital yesterday and we now have eyedrops for them. William and Keisha are doing a lot better today than yesterday. They just fell asleep to Backyardigans playing in their room. Which reminds me that I need to turn their television off because I can hear it playing now. Pablo is yelling something... or is that Tyrone?

I am tired a lot these days, but according to Kat Williams, when you are a parent you are always tired.

Searching for a Web Host Provider

My current web host plan will be up in about 3 months. I purchased a one year plan with my host provider, Host Monster. I have really been pleased with their service over the last nine months. I will most likely stick with this company unless I can find a better deal. Searching for a web host provider can be frustrating at times. There are a several factors that I consider, but initially I look at cost (annual or monthly and set up fees), disk space (how many MBs of storage), data transfer (how many GBs) and database (must have MySQL). I like to use websites like http://www.webhostingchoice.com that have search tools for finding web hosts that meet your needs.

I have learned the hard way that a cheap plan does not mean that it is the best plan. Besides an affordable package with the extra features, I need quality customer service that is easy to access, responds in a reasonable time frame, shows patience and understanding and provides the correct answers. After dealing with at least six different web hosts over the years, another one of my criteria for making the final pick is that the company must have a toll-free number. And if the number is available 24-7 then that is even better. Dealing with a company via e-mail is fine, but I appreciate the convenience of being able to use my phone to call a sales, customer service or tech representative for assistance. Afterwards, I would have no problem with following up with questions in an e-mail.

My web host provider has helped me a great deal since March. At this point it is likely that I will stick with them. If something changes in the near future then I will definitely do some research to find the best deal available within my means.

Promote Your Site for Free With Entrecard

I first read about this free promotion tool at Entrecard.com through Shoemoney, but then was recently reminded of it by Eaglehawk. I recently signed up but decided to put up the code in the right column of this site today, after Eaglehawk told me how many visits he received because of Entrecard.

Entrecard.com

So far so good. The interface is simple but not too plain and everything is easy to follow. When I signed up, I immediately received the confirmation email.

My Entrecard is actually looking plain at the moment, but when I get some more free time then I will make one that is better looking. Now I will just sit back and wait for results on the dashboard.

If you have already signed up at Entrecard, what do you think about it so far?

Free Dating and Chatting with Friendsation

I started chatting online in the mid-1990s while at Mizzou on some network that I cannot recall the name of. Then I later began to use America Online while in college at Washington University in St. Louis, to hang out in chat rooms about a variety of topics such as teens, wrestling, music, etc. Times have really changed for myself from those days.

I would say that I have grown out the chatting scene, but the popularity of social sites with free dating and free live chat remain high.

Increase Your Technorati Ranking with Viral Links

I have read about Viral Linking on several websites to help increase your Technorati Ranking. I thought to give it a try on Missnexus.com.

All you need to do is follow these four simple instructions and you're on your way to increasing the number of links to your blog.

1. Copy and paste the entire matrix of “ViralTags” below.

2. Substitute the Host Tag and one of the “ViralTags” in the matrix with your anchor text of choice containing your blog’s URL. Please keep anchor text to a maximum of 4 words to keep the matrix size manageable.

3. When you get a ping back from someone that has your link in one of their “ViralTags”, practice good karma by copying his/her Host Tag’s anchor text (automatically the associated link will also be copied) and paste it over one of your “ViralTags” below.

4. Encourage and invite your readers to do the same and soon this will grow virally.

<==== Copy and Paste below this line ====>

Google Adsense Video Units are Up and Running

Last week, I set up the Video Units on my Google Adsense account yet the status remained as pending. On Friday, I emailed Adsense support. I waited... then waited some more. I received the response today:

Google AdSense

Hi Rashaan,

Thanks for your email. To give YouTube access, please login to your AdSense account and click the "Account Access” sub-tab which is located under the "My Account" tab. You will notice a link which says "grant access." Clicking this link will give YouTube access to your AdSense account.

Sincerely,

Sean
The Google AdSense Team

If you run into this problem where your account status is pending, be sure to go over those steps mentioned in the email above before you contact support. I did not know I was supposed to do that, but hell I could have read right passed those steps when I signed up. Who knows?

So here is my video unit...

But now, where should I put this gigantic ad?

Goodness gracious...

What Happened to Exlinks.net? BlogMad Must Have Forgotten About You

I was going through the links on my site the other day to weed out the dead ones. I came across ExLinks and wondered what came about all the hype created by Kinetiq.org. Sometime last year, BlogMad began a promotion of a new site that promised exponential traffic for free. Sounds great right?

Go to ExLinks now and you will find:

That portal does not look like it will get me exponential traffic...

According to the WhoIs Record for Exlinks.net, the site expired on September 25, 2007 and it is pending renewal or deletion. Maybe the folks at Kinetiq.org forgot to pay a bill or *gasp* maybe ExLinks.net will never give us exponential traffic for free. The project may have ended before it ever began... at least for the public.

On BlogMad.net, they still have Exlinks linked at the bottom of the page. Someone contact BlogMad... I am too lazy to drop them an email and wait for a response to see what is up.

Exlinks.net Gone?

Here is the Whois Record that I found at: http://whois.domaintools.com/exlinks.net

Get Paid for Blogging With Smorty

I recently joined a program that helps me get paid for something that I love to do. Smorty offers opportunities to connect advertisers with bloggers. Bloggers can earn money from blogging their opinions and advertise on blogs.

There is no fee to have an account with Smorty. You can have as many blogs as you would like with Smorty. The more blogs you have, then the more opportunities you will have to earn more money by writing your opinions.

The sign up process is very simple. On the home page you will find two boxes: Advertisers and Bloggers. For bloggers, you will go to the green box on the right and click bloggers get started. The next step is registration. I signed up for Smorty on a Sunday evening and received an acceptance response early Monday morning.

Smorty.com

When your blog is approved, you can immediately start accepting advertisers opportunities and submitting blog entries. After you login, you will find all of the New Opportunities on the far right panel. Also, as more opportunities become available, Smorty will send you an email. I would suggest you quickly review the email and accept the campaign, because the available posts may be limited. The payment amounts can start at $6 and go all the way up to $100. If your Google PageRank, Alexa Rankings, return rate of given Smorty tasks, approval/decline ration of competed tasks and number of complete tasks are high, then Smorty will offer you higher paying campaigns.
