What Labor Day Means for Me

I kept looking around for a good Labor Day image but my thoughts kept flowing back to just one image in particular. What do you think of when you think of Labor Day? I bet many people thinking about it being just another day off. I took a moment to think about what Labor Day means for me.

LaborDay

I started thinking about unions. As a federal employee Labor Day means a lot to me. I was very involved in the union at my previous job… such as volunteering to canvas, educating employees about the importance of voting, setting up voter registration events, emailing and writing to members of the House of Representatives and Senate to encourage them to vote for federal employee issues (health benefits, pay raises, etc).

Then I started thinking about the working man (and woman) in general. So many people before me have worked hard and fought for the rights and privileges that I have today.  I think of my grandfather who retired as a county worker then kept working for neighbors and others to make ends meet.  Along with Mama and Dot – they made sure that all was taken care of in the household for my brother and I.

Take a moment to think of what Labor Day means for you.
