Third Set of Tubes

Last Thursday, we took William to his ENT appointment. The doctors and audiologists were very thorough as they always are. One doctor cleaned the wax out of William’s ears and used a microscope with a wand to get the wax that was very deep. She said that it looks like at least one of the tubes came out of place. No surprise there because William last had a set of tubes put in June 2007 and the first set in August 2006. A set of tubes lasts about a year.

After getting all of the wax out and with minimal waiting time, they sent us down the hall to the audiologist for two hearing tests. The hearing tests confirmed that there was hearing loss do to the fluid in both of his ears. Thankfully, no sign of infection.

Shortly after the hearing tests, William’s doctor came into the room and confirmed what we anticipated. William will need another set of tubes. The surgery is scheduled for July 25. On the bright side of things, this is outpatient surgery and William will be able to go back to school on the following Monday. When William had the two previous surgeries, there were other things going on… in 2006 a partial adenoidectomy and in 2007, an adenoidectomy and tonsillectomy. The recovery time was much longer because of the other procedures.

Keisha’s follow up visit with her ENT is tomorrow and William’s doctor said that if she needs tubes, that he would have no problem with doing her surgery the same day. The doctor said that hopefully this is the last set of tubes that William will need. I hope so too.

Keisha has a speech therapy appointment on the 25th, so I need to cancel that. I waited almost three months to get this appointment. Oh well, I will just take one day at a time to resolve the speech issue. I need to do additional research for the twins because I think they both need speech therapy.
