The Siren

During the past two weeks, I’ve begun to have less and less spam on this site and that darlings… is a very good thing. I just thought that I would share this information.

When I woke up at about 7:45am I briefly panicked because I didn’t hear the children calling for me. I forgot that I left the baby monitor off from the day before. I went to the restroom, did my thing, then walked into the nursery and saw that William had climbed out of his bed for the second night/morning in a row. I’ll have to assume that he hadn’t been lying on the floor in between the two cribs for most of the night. He is obviously doing this so slick that neither JT nor myself don’t know about it until we get to their room. I hear from JT’s mom that JT used to do the same thing and this is no surprise that the stuntman genes run through William’s veins. JT will lower the crib AGAIN, but all I can do is hold my breath, keep the nursery childproof and hope that he doesn’t get hurt. Keisha has climbed out of her crib… I think only twice. Once she cried only because she startled herself and the other time she sat there on the floor chilling with her brother. Needless to say, the twins like adventures.

I laid the children down for their morning nap at about 9:30am then woke JT up for breakfast. We cleared some shows off of the precious TiVo then we spent some well-deserved quality time together. When the children woke up from their morning nap, I asked JT if he could fix their lunch because I was still exhausted. The total nap time was about two and one-half hours. I really needed that sleep. I could have used some more, but I decided to wake up at about 2:30pm because we were going over JT’s mom’s house in the evening for dinner.

The last hour of this evening has been not so good… at about 11:25pm a tornado warning siren went off and that nearly scared me to death. I think that this has been only the third time that I have heard that siren that was not a test, since I have lived in the city. I never heard it when I lived in the county. I was in the Millennium Falcon (the computer room) at the time and after I was finished finding the CD I was looking for, I dashed into the bedroom to turn on Channel 5. As I expected, Mike Roberts was reporting the weather about the thunder storms, tornado warnings and flash flood warnings. Thankfully, the tornado warning ended at 11:45pm. A news reporter came on channel five stating that damages were reported at Maplewood Commons near Highway 40 and Manchester. Of course this hit me hard considering that we were at that exact plaza only a few hours before the storm.

Moments later, I called my mom to make sure she was okay and to let her know that the children, JT and I were all okay. On this side of town all we saw were high winds and a thunder storm. Unfortunately the roof leak that originated on October 31 from a severe thunder storm came back this evening. The leak is above where our bed is normally but we had to move it forward about one foot. This time instead of one trashcan, we have to use two trashcans to catch the rain droplets. The shit is frustrating. JT thinks that the damage is a minor repair and we should be able to find someone to repair the damage at a cost lower than our insurance deductible. I hope so.
