Space Junk
This morning, I was fortunate to go on my first field trip with the twins. This is yet another reason why I am thankful for my current job. My husband and I bought the tickets in advance and today we went to the St. Louis Science Center and saw Space Junk in the Omnimax Theatre.
I learned a great deal from the movie. I had no clue that all of that junk was floating in space and how much of a problem that the junk can be for existing structures such as the International Space Station (ISS). My favorite part of the movie was the visual of earth potentially having rings like Saturn when the debri in the atmosphere settles after several hundred years.
The only negatives were: the movie was too short – one hour, but perhaps that is about all the average second-grader can handle and there is not enough leg space in the theatre. My knees cramped up after sitting down for just a few minutes.
After the movie, the children went back to school. We had one hour to kill so JT and I went over to Best Buy. If you know me, you know that Best Buy is my favorite store. Would you believe that I walked out without any purchases? I am so proud of myself. We then drove over to our twins’ school for lunch and a small ceremony. The food was horrible. The pizza tasted like cardboard with tomato sauce poured over it, but I ate every last bit of that pizza because I was very hungry. My husband kept looking over at me sternly throughout lunch, as if I prepared the meal. The nice ceremony and quality time that I spent with my family more than made up for the yucky pizza.
My twins will be in third grade this August. Wow.
