Randomly Friday Five

Did you write a list to Santa when you were little? Do you write a Christmas present wish list now?

Yes for many years I wrote a Christmas List, but it was never to Santa. I also wrote it to my mom. Now that I am all grown up, I no longer write but I do give one verbally to family members.

What are the top 10 things on your list this year?

I actually had not thought about that yet until reading this question. I would like to have some new clothes. I really need to work on getting some business suits. Gift cards to a local spa and nail salon would be nice. Anything from my wishlist here would be great (especially the complete Seinfeld DVD collection that comes out in November. Love that show. Well the wish list brings me well over ten things, so on to the next question.

What are the three (or 1, 2, 4, 5) best presents you ever received as a child and why?

As a child, I one of the gifts I received every Christmas was Legos (as I asked for) so that was a wonderful thing. Other than that some gifts that stand out are NES (Nintendo), Sega Genesis and SNES (Super Nintendo). I do not remember the exact years that we (my brother and I) received them but I remember being excited as hell and playing the games into the wee hours of the morning.

What are the top 5 movies you think everyone should see and why?

1. The Color Purple. *Spoiler ahead* The book is powerful and I feel that Steven Spielberg and the cast did an amazing job of depicting the characters and the storyline in this powerful film. Although the storyline takes place in the early 1900s, I feel the Color Purple is timeless. I feel that particularly black women will watch this film and leave feeling empowered. Celie’s troubling journey led her to a woman she loved, freedom from her abusive husband, a successful business, the truth about her father and reuniting with her sister and children. Everything about The Color Purple is spectacular. My all time favorite.

2. The Usual Suspects. This movie is perfect. Just when you thought you figured out who did it… the writer puts a spectacular twist in the script. The Usual Suspects is full of suspense and is an amazing crime thriller. Did Keyser Soze do it?

3. Pulp Fiction. This movie is very complex and I think that everything I watch it, I see something that I did not notice before. Quentin Tarantino

4. Fight Club. Another excellent thriller and this movie is my next favorite after The Usual Suspects. The ending… I did not see that coming at all.

5. The Matrix. Love this movie. Love it. Love it. Love it. Everything about this movie is spectacular: the writing, directing, camera work and acting. I feel that the first movie of the trilogy was the best. The Matrix is my favorite science fiction film.

Which comes first, success or happiness? Or, to think of it a different way, does happiness follow success or are you only successful when you achieve happiness? Are they even necessarily related?

They are not necessarily related. In theory you could be successful without being happy and you could be happy without being successful. In my life I hope to achieve both and I feel that if I am happy in my relationship with JT and my family then I can archive greatness in my career and other goals.
