Cassette Singles

Circa 1989 – 1996.
I either didn’t have money for a whole cassette or I only liked one song from the album. I remember raping Sam Goody and Camelot (now FYE) for their cassette single sales. The Top 20 was almost always on sale.
JT bought me a new CD rack because my other one was beyond ghetto. Actually it wasn’t mine, I stole it from my brother. That’s beside the point though. Anyway, as I’m loading MY new CD rack, I’m glancing across my dusty old cassette singles; many in which have not been played in several years.
*Blows dust away… AAHCHEW*
Let us see what we have here. Click the title for a picture of the cassette.
Aaliyah- At Your Best (You Are Love)
1994
Side 1 LP Version
Side 2 Gangstar Child Remix, Stepper’s Ball Remix
While everyone else was concerned with whether or not R. Kelly was married to fifteen year old Aaliyah, I was swaying my hips to this Isley Brother hit. This is truly a classic remake. I heard Ashanti was going to attempt to redo this song. I hope that this was an ugly rumor *smh*
Anita Baker- Body & Soul
1994
Side 1 Edit
Side 2 Baby (LP Version)
Wasn’t this the last major hit Anita had?
Blackstreet- Before I Let Go
1994
Side 1 LP Version
Side 2 Baby Be Mine (LP Version)
This is my favorite Blackstreet song. Joy and No Diggity run a close second.
Boyz II Men- I’ll Make Love To You
Side 1 LP Version
Side 2 Instrumental
Brand New Heavies- Never Stop
1991
Side 1 Never Stop (single edit)
Side 2 Never Stop (remix edit)
This was a very smooth song. Add them to the ‘Where are they now’ list.
Changing Faces- Stroke You Up
1994
Side 1 LP Mix
Side 2 Remix Edit
Changing Faces… where are yoooou? Other than Aaliyah, R. Kelly has not produced any long lasting artists. Sparkle is MIA as well.
E-40- Sprinkle Me
1995
Side 1 LP Version
Side 2 Bosko’s Mo’Game Remix
Faith Evans- Soon As I Get Home
1995
Side 1 Radio Edit, Instrumental, You Used To Love Me (Puff Daddy Mix)
Side 2 Duplicate of side one.
This was back in the day before I knew she was Biggie’s baby mama.
HWA (Hoez With Attitude)- I Ain’t No Lady
Side 1 I Ain’t No Lady
Side 2 Summer With An Attitude (Summer Mix, Instrumental Mix and Beat Your Own Ho Mix)
All I want to know is how many people remember this group? LMAO
Isley Brothers- Let’s Lay Together
1996
Side 1 LP Version
Side 2 Instrumental
I think this was the last cassette single I purchased.
Jackson 5- Who’s Lovin You
Recorded live in 1971 and remastered for the cassette single in 1992.
Side 1 Live version
Side 2 Original version
Every time I think of Jackson 5, I think about Tessa <3
LL Cool J- Hey Lover
1995
Side 1 Radio Edit
Side 2 Instrumental
OMG the lips. Enough said.
Men At Large- Let’s Talk About It
1994
Side 1 Let’s Talk About It (Radio Edit), Excerpts from the forthcoming (at the time) album
Side 2 Repeat of Side 1, tell me what the purpose was for repeating the same thing as the other side?
What happen to these handsome big brothas?
MoKenStef- He’s Mine
1995
Side 1 LP Version
Side 2 Instrumental
Calvin recently introduced me to a remix of this song!
Montell Jordan- Falling
1996
Side 1 LP Version
Side 2 I Like (Remix)
Red Hot Chilli Peppers- Under the Bridge
1991
Side 1 Album Version
Side 2 The Righteous & The Wicked (Album Version)
I don’t wanna ever feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeel like I did that daaaaaaaaaay. Take me to the place I looooooove, take me all the waaaaaaaaaay. I love this damn song to death. It never gets old to me.
Shaggy- Boombastic
1995
Side 1 LP Version, Summer Time (featuring Rayvon)
Side 2 Sting Remix, Gal Yu A Pepper
Mr. Lova Lova mmmmmmmmm. Boombastic was a major hit that summer.
Terry Ellis- Where Ever You Are
1995
Side 1 Radio Edit
Side 2 Unplugged Version
Absolutely one of my all time favorite songs!! I really miss En Vogue *sigh*
Whitney Houston- Exhale (Shoop Shoop)
1995
Side 1 LP Version
Side 2 Dancin On The Smooth Edge
This is from back in the day when Whitney had some meat on her bones.
Xscape- Just Kickin It
1993
Side 1 Radio Edit, W.S.S Deez Nuts
Side 2 Radio Edit, Understanding, Is My Living In Vain, Let Me Know, Tonight
With all those songs, this was truly worth the buy. I met them at Streetside Records in University City about seven years ago.
