Exhaustion Tuesday Twosome

September 18th, 2007

What are two ways your relieve exhaustion?

Listen to music (see previous post) and take a hot bath with lavender oils or rock salt. Feels so good.

What two daily activities/chores do you find exhausting?

Folding clothes… actually washing and drying clothes is easy, but I hate folding the clothes. I am also not very good at keeping my bedroom tidy. Cleaning it is very exhausting.

Do you generally wake up exhausted or go to bed exhausted?

Monday through Friday mornings I wake up exhausted because I really really really do not want to go to work. Saturday and Sunday, I go to bed exhausted because I stay up late.

What is more exhausting? An unwanted telephone call or running into an acquaintance you barely remember?
When you are the most exhausted, what two things do you wish the most?

I feel that running into someone I barely remember would be more exhausting because it would be hard to wiggle myself out of the conversation and fake my way through it. On the phone, I could act like the signal dropped on the cell phone and just hang up.

10 Things I Do When I Have Nothing Else to Do

September 18th, 2007

1. Spend time with the twins. This includes but is not limited to having our own battle royal, WWE style, reading books, drawing what comes to mind on the Magna Doodle and watching Dora the Explorer.

2. Surfing the Internet. I spend hours doing this and probably if you ask JT… I spend way too much time surfing the internet. I do a lot of productive things though… really I do.

3. Sleep. I cannot seem to get get enough of it. Love sleep.

4. Call a friend or family member. I like to keep the calls kind of brief unless there is a hot topic.

5. Researching ways to make money online. I am very determined to bring extra income in this household.

6. General reading. In addition to reading to the twins, I also like to read to JT. We just finished reading the latest Star Wars book in the Legacy of the Force series. Luke Skywalker is still the man.

7. Watching Netflix movies. Netflix is the greatest.

Happy Third Birthday William & Keisha

September 16th, 2007

On Friday, September 14, William and Keisha turned three years old. Where have the three years gone? It seems like it was just yesterday when I proudly carried them in my womb, wobbling down the aisle with swollen feet and a smile on my face.

Three years later after Tuesday, September 14, 2004 at 8:19 a.m., I am thankful the wobble and swollen feet are gone, but I still have a smile on my face. William and Keisha have gone through a great deal and accomplished so much during their second year of life. Contrary to pediatricians absurd recommendations, JT and I decided potty training is a necessity before age 5. Hundreds of diapers later, we have survived… William and Keisha are fully potty trained and in the big girl and boy classroom at daycare. Did you just see me do three backflips? The alphabet… you guys almost have it, you just get a little blurry around H but you pick up the pace soon after that.

I love to hear you sing songs such as Old McHaddold [sic], Itsy Bitsy Spiduh [sic], Twinkuh Twinkuh Little Stah [sic] and Blue Zoo Train. No one can sing the songs like my two bundles of joys. You know all of your colors, even some of those crazy ass made up ones in the Crayola box. You love the Disney Channel and actually prefer it over Sponge Bob SquarePants (thank God). William, your favorite snacks are cookies and chips… Keisha your favorite snack is …well you are the finicky one of the two. You change your mind daily *smile*

You can finally hold up three fingers when I ask you how old you are and Keisha, you are not sad anymore about turning three. JT says that this is a typical female response about getting older *evil eye*…

How To Add TextLinkAds To Drupal Blog

September 13th, 2007

I have been seeing TextLinksAds across the internet for a while and last night I decided to set up an account for Missnexus.com. The process was very simple. After signing up, I immediately found out how to input the ads using a Drupal module.

To review this Drupal documentation and download the module, go to: http://drupal.org/project/textlinkads

From Drupal.org, the module features are:

- Simplified setup right on your site. All you need is your Website XML Key from Text-Link-Ads.com and you’re ready to start publishing ads.

- A built-in tool to customize the looks of the ads, including borders, background color, link color and font size.

- Access to your publisher statistics from within your website. See your site details, including how much money you’ve earned and how many links are being served.

- Cron-based updates of your ads. The ad links are kept up to date via Drupal’s cron functionality.

This morning I received an email from TextLinkAds support that my inventory (my website) is now on the marketplace. This means that all I need now is for someone to buy the ad space on my site (see the right column at the bottom).

If you are interested in advertising on this site through TextLinkAds, please go to this URL: http://www.text-link-ads.com/packageDetail.php?packageID=77162

Summer Lovin Tuesday Twosome

September 11th, 2007

What two things are you going to miss the most about summer?

Daylight savings time… I love long sunny days. And Ted Drewes being open.

What two things annoyed you the most about summer:

When the heat index and temperature is greater than 100. Leave request denials at my job… wait that is all year round, not just the summer.

Name two memorable moments from this past summer

Seeing The Color Purple on Broadway. Going to Memphis for a family reunion.

Did you go on vacation this summer and if so, where?

Yes, see the response above.

Who has more fun during summer: A child or an adult? And why?

I suppose a child, because even in extreme heat conditions they can manage to have fun. As long as I keep the juice and fruit snacks headed their way, the twins are fine.

Where were you 6 years ago (on September 11)?

Six years ago I was working at RadioShack, but I was off that day. I watched all of the events on television

What two major emotions do recall feeling?

Fear and sadness

Who were the first two people you called that day?

JT and my mom.

What two words best describes that day for you?

Chaos and destruction

What two major changes in your life has occurred since that day?

I have children and started talking to my father again.

Monday Madness

September 11th, 2007

1. Do you have children in school?

Yes, my children currently attend pre school.

2. Are YOU currently in school (any level)?

No, but I wish I were in school. I kind of miss it. I hope to enroll in a Masters Program within the next 3 years.

3. Did you (or your children) attend a public or private school?

No, but when my children go to kindergarten in two years, they will be enrolled in a private school.

4. As far as formal education, what level have you completed?

I have a diploma from high school and a Bachelors of Arts in Arabic from college.

5. Do you, or did you have loans out for your (or your children’s) education?

Yes, I took out loans for my education (junior and senior year of college). *deep sigh* I hope that the situation is different for my children.

6. What are your thoughts on the cost of tuition for colleges and universities?

Tuition is extremely overpriced for colleges and universities. The rate of the increase is exponetial compared to the rate of increase of our family income. I better be a millioinare by the time the twins go to college.

Unconscious Mutterings

September 9th, 2007

Week 240

say … and I think … ?

Dork:: Revenge of the Nerds

Refurbished:: I like finding good deals on refurbished electronics. Just because they are used does not mean they are not in good shape.

Basket:: Easter… I was glancing over the twins’ Easter pictures on Flickr, just the other day.

Mousse:: The sticky crap that some men put in their hair. What exactly is in mousee anyway? Oooh, here is a better mousse… chocolate mousse. *drool*

Studio :: Live performance… I would love to see Prince perform in his studio.

8 ball:: Corner pocket… urr I suck at pool. Even online pool. I suck.

Masking tape:: Masking tape is a must-have in the home tool kit. Right next to two rolls of duct tape, WD-40, hammer, nails, etc… I could go on and on.

Love:: I do not believe in love at first sight, but I do believe in destined and eternal love.

Wilder:: Gene. He was a very talented comedian. Like his wife, he died way too soon.

Lindsey:: Wagner. And speaking of Lindsey Wagner… the New Bionic Woman comes on NBC soon.

How to Remove the RSS Icon From Drupal Theme

September 8th, 2007

How to remove the RSS icon from my Drupal theme. I had been looking around the net for a while. I could have sworn it would have been an edit to footer block or in the page.php but it was not.

I researched on Drupal.org and just found this great information: http://drupal.org/node/172778

To remove the RSS icon from your theme, you need to edit your theme’s template.php file and add the following code:

/**
* remove RSS feed icon
**/
function phptemplate_feed_icon($url){
return;
}

It works.

Saturday 6

September 8th, 2007

1. How different is your speech pattern among your friends versus a stranger you’d meet on the street?

Fairly different. I am definitely more lax with my friends regarding my speech than with a stranger. If I mess up my grammar with a friend, I do not really care.

2. How often do you get asked where you’re from based on your accent?

Seems like during college, I was asked that question a lot. Not that much these days, but sometimes at work when I help customers.

3. What word or phrase said by newscasters is your biggest pet peeve?

Person of interest. Damnit just go ahead and say suspect, why don’t you?

4. Take the quiz: How good at grammar are you?

Results:

You Scored an A

You got 10/10 questions correct.

It’s pretty obvious that you don’t make basic grammatical errors.
If anything, you’re annoyed when people make simple mistakes on their blogs.
As far as people with bad grammar go, you know they’re only human.
And it’s humanity and its current condition that truly disturb you sometimes.

The It’s Its There Their They’re Quiz

5. How often do you look up a word in a dictionary, either online or print?

A few times throughout the week, I use my hardback copy of Webster’s New World College Dictionary and I often go to http://www.m-w.com for the online reference.

6. How many books or guides on grammar do you currently own?

I own, between 10 and 15 grammar books.
