What If
October 21st, 2006
Saturday 8
If you could have named yourself, which name would you have chosen, and why?
I would not change my name, because I love my name.
If you could relive a year in your life, what age would it be, and why?
13. The year my grandfather passed away. I would love to be able to relive that year and ask him a million questions and spend all the time in the world with him.
If you could go back and change one friendship in your past, who would it have been, and why?
I would have kept in touch with C. who was a dear friend starting back in headstart but when I moved during second grade we lost contact.
If you could have dated one person in your past that you did not date, who would it be, and why?
K. No details on this one. I’m not going to incriminate myself.
If you could say one thing/idea/sentiment to someone in your past, what would it be, and why?
I would tell my Papa that I love him.
If you had the opportunity to live in another country, which one would it be, and why? if you choose NOT to live in another country, why do you want to stay in your current country?
I would love to travel to other countries and maybe even have a second home in another country, but I would prefer to live in United States. I suppose that the only reason I can think of why I want to stay in the U.S. is that I am afraid of the unknown.
If you could choose your dream job, what would it be, and why?
United States Secretary of State. I would end many conflicts as a well-known and successful diplomatic.
If you could wish a wish and it be guaranteed to come true (and not to your detriment or to the detriment of anyone else), what would it be, and why?
I would wish the end of poverty.
Friday Five
October 20th, 2006
1. How do you deal with stress?
I listen to music, pray, play with my children and write.
2. Do you have a favorite “comfort food” and what is it?
Baked potatoes loaded with sour cream, cheese, a little butter and (imitation) bacon bits.
3. Do you have a “comfort activity” and what is it?
Listening to music.
4. What days depress you and why?
Gloomy weather days and days when JT and I argue. The gloomy weather days depress me because I enjoy the sun and cloudy and rainy days… although relaxing in some ways are not very uplifting for my soul. The arguements depress me because they are often repeatitive and exhausting. I’ll just leave it at that.
5. What days excite you and why?
Well of course, sunny days excite me. See the above question for the reason why.

Paying the Bills
Onesome: Payin’– Hey, ‘they’ tell us fuel prices are down! What are you payin’ this week for a gallon of gas?
$1.99 per gallon.
Twosome: the– heck you say! There’s an election coming up here in the US; do you plan to vote? No, no need for your soapbox. …unless you want to .
Yes, definitely I will vote.
Threesome: Bills– Which bill(s) do you absolutely dislike paying? …and by that I mean the one you “have to-have to” but wish you didn’t have to. Tuition/books? Power? The newspaper?
Well I wish I didn’t have to pay the mortgage but especially the gas and electric bills. Utility bills are very overpriced.

Believe
October 18th, 2006
Q. Do you believe in angels?
A. Yes, I do believe in angels. I believe that there are guardian angels that watch over my family and I. I believe that when my children were newborns… when they sat in my arms looking off to the side (appearing to stare into space) and giggling, I believe that angels were talking to them.

…On a personal sad note… this week would have been my parents 30th anniversary. They separated many years ago. My mom lives here in St. Louis and my Dad in Denver. Some days I still struggle with my parents not being together.

Describe
1. The perfect autumn day and what activities you enjoy.
Never done this, but it sounds lovely to me: 60 degrees outside… backyard is full of leaves, I would take the twins outside and we jump into the pile of leaves and laugh nonstop. Afterward we all join in to gather the leaves into bags.
2. Two things about yourself that make you different from everybody else:
I can wiggle my ears. I burned my the back of my leg with a curling iron when I was 12.
3. The last time you laughed really hard and why:
The fact that I can’t remember makes me sad.
4. Two items of clothing that best represents who you are:
Thick sweatshirt with a pull over hoodie. A long-sleeved t-shirt in all earth tones.
5. Yourself as others see you and how you see yourself:
I believe that others see me as emotional, intelligent and loyal. I see myself as ambitious but a procrastinator, unorganized and dependent.

Four for Friday
October 13th, 2006
Happy Friday the 13th.
Why Friday the 13th is unlucky: http://urbanlegends.about.com/cs/historical/a/friday_the_13th.htm
Q1 – Holiday Decorations: We have a lot of ‘holidays’ here in the U.S., including New Year’s Day, Valentine’s Day, Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Do you ever decorate your home or office space for a holiday? If so, which ones, and how far do you go with your decorating?
We decorate the inside of our home for Christmas. We decorate the outside of our home for Halloween and Christmas. I decorate my cubicle at work for Mardi Gras and Christmas.
Q2 – Birth: Were you born in a hospital or somewhere else?
I was born in a hospital. Barnes Hospital to be exact.
Q3 – Shoes: Do you wear shoes inside your home?
No, I don’t like tracking mud and dirt throughout the house like JT does.
Q4 – Congressional Pages: The United States Congress employs approximately 100 teenagers from around the country as pages who serve as messengers and who perform administrative tasks for members of Congress. Would you allow your teenage child to be a Congressional page?
Yes.
Thursday Threesome
October 12th, 2006
Well the title of this post is for the meme at the end, but I’ll start off by telling you about my day. I took William to the hospital on the bus for his scheduled transfusion. This was his third scheduled transfusion and it appears that he will be having them about every four weeks to reduce the chance of another spleen crisis from sickle cell anemia. Everything was fine when we arrived at the doctor… we had our normal routine. Everything was fine until Nurse M. (mind you she is his regular nurse for the IVs) came in the room. William was frightened, he immediately started kicking and screaming. M. came over to put the IV in William and then crying escalated and tears flowed fiercely down his cheeks. After several attempts, M. successfully put the IV in William’s hand. I really didn’t understand why she didn’t put it in his arm like the four times before. Even the IV for his emergency transfusion was in the arm.
M. removed 80 mL of William’s blood and he was to get 80 mL blood for the transfusion. During the previous transfusion the ration was 70 mL – 100 mL.
We went to the private sitting room during the transfusion. Hours went by and about 1 p.m. I noticed that blood was leaking from the IV splint. I called for M. and she came over. The IV came out!! William and I had to go back over to the first room to get the IV put back in, and this time in his arm… like it should have been in the first place. This time, not only did William kick and scream, he also pinched and bit me… very hard. It took a lot for me to not scream myself, but I hung in there. I had to be strong for my son.
All in all, despite all the tears, the hospital visit was a success. When my family’s health is well, then I am well.
Now, the reason for the title of this entry:
Onesome: Up– to no good? Are you the Halloween prankster sort of person? …or do you just avoid that kind of thing?
