What a Cruel Way

January 31st, 2005

…to get rid of your enemy:

PHALABORWA, South Africa (AP) — A decaying finger helped forensics experts identify a farmworker allegedly thrown to lions by his former employer, a packed court heard Monday.

Police reconstructive technician Inspector Teunis Briers testified how he was able to take a print from the finger found in a lion breeding enclosure along with other remains and torn clothing. Police fingerprint expert Hugo Coetzee testified that he then matched the print to Nelson Chisale’s identification records.

The print had not changed despite the finger being badly decomposed.

Farm owner Mark Scott-Crossley and co-defendants Richard Mathebula, 41, and Simon Mathebula, 43, who are not related, are charged with killing Chisale last January.

Prosecutors allege that the defendants attacked Chisale with machetes, tied him up, beat him and threw him into a pen of lions. Police said Scott-Crossley had fired Chisale and Chisale was attacked when he returned to retrieve belongings.

Earlier Monday, police brought in sniffer dogs to sweep the court for possible explosives. Police did not say whether they had received a bomb threat.

Twenty Seven

January 27th, 2005

On this day, twenty seven years ago a beautiful woman named Sarah gave birth to a eight pounder named Rashaan.

On this day, one year ago, Rashaan found out that she was pregnant (but did not know they were twins… yet).

Yes, today is my birthday.

JT cooked a spectacular meal and baked a pineapple upside down cake last night. I had leftovers today and it tasted just as good :yummy:

So I’m twenty seven years old now… I don’t really feel old but I don’t really feel young anymore either. I guess am at that in between stage.

Black Owned

January 22nd, 2005

Well folks it is only twenty second day of January and I am already nominating this person as Stupid Person of the Year. The link speaks for itself so just click it right now and be sure to leave a really nice comment.

I have only two questions: One, why was she stupid to call him the n-word and two, why did she post the picture of her black eye… for sympathy?

My sister Celie has declared January 21 as National Slap a Stupid Person Day (Observed).

Chris posted this at Kthxbi Forums

Now that is comedy folks.

Four Month Checkup

January 19th, 2005

We took the twins to the doctor on Friday for their four month checkup. This was actually the first time that we had ever been on time there. In fact we were about an hour and a half early. (Un)lucky us… the children’s pediatrician is quite popular, always heavily booked and is VERY thorough with examinations. Our 3pm appointment didn’t begin until nearly 4:15pm. The afternoon was frustrating to say the least.

On the bright side of things, the twins’ checkup went quite well. Keisha currently weighs twelve pounds eight ounces and her height is twenty three and one half inches. Big brother William towers in at sixteen pounds and is twenty five and one half inches tall. The twins also had their four month immunization shots and they took the pain like two troopers. They didn’t cry as much as the two month immunizations. William has had this snorting/snoring thing going on since birth and it has been of great concern for JT and I. His pediatrician has tried to assure us that William will probably be just a regular snorer. If the issue becomes worse at age six months we may consult an ENT. If William has or may develop a breathing problem, we want to make sure that we have had him thoroughly examined.

Monday afternoon was fantastic because Keisha laughed for the first time. I’m not talking about those little baby giggles. I’m talking about a hearty chuckle. I was standing upstairs in the hallway with Keisha in my arms when JT came upstairs. At the top of the stairs, Keisha looked over at Dad. I said to JT, “Keisha wants to tell you something…” JT looked over at Keisha, smiled at her then Keisha busted out with laugh. I nearly cried… it was a beautiful moment just when William laughed for the first time last month (a few days before New Year’s Eve).

I’m always looking forward to when the twins do something new… I take lots of pictures, but I need to get the ball rolling with the camcorder.

Downtime Anyone?

January 18th, 2005

*Note: This entry was written during training on Tuesday, January 18, so I could stay awake :shh:

I’m in training at work for a couple of weeks, which is just fine in my book because I actually get off from work at a reasonable time with daylight out * gasp. * When I normally get off from work, it feels so late and this usually sets the somber mood for my evening. I feel so tired and drained, dreading any household chores. The feeling is quite the opposite when I’m off from work around four pm-ish.

Before the twins were born I would even have time to come home and take a two to three hour nap. I call my three hour naps – power naps. I (used to) feel like a new person after a power nap. Unfortunately, I don’t know what a power nap feels like anymore. So now, when I’m fortunate to get off early I take advantage of this time in other ways. I may do a couple of chores around the house such as loading/preparing the dishwasher with dishes and baby bottles, making the bed, loading a load or two of dirty clothes and gathering the trash.

Other than that, what I’m really focused on is relaxing and getting some me time. I don’t have much me time these days and as much as I love my twins, I do miss my me time. Finding a way to incorporate me time into a tightly sealed schedule has been a difficult part of my healing process. Don’t get me wrong… I can love up William and Keisha all day everyday. Just ask JT LOL. But at the end of the workday or the evening at home, I need my own personal downtime. Downtime can be implemented several ways such as cuddling up with JT, hot showers/baths, writing, reading, watching tv and/or browsing a select few websites. Downtime is important and I’m sure every mom and dad in the world can relate to this.

*Oops, I just hit publish on this entry before I was finished.

Anyway…

MLK

January 17th, 2005

Happy Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

I have actually never participated in any MLK marches. Perhaps I will when the twins are older. I think it would be a good family experience.

I am still waiting on a Malcolm X Day. I would not even be picky to say that it has to be federally observed with a day off. Ahh… *sigh* I guess I will be waiting for the rest of my life though. :meditate:
