Friday Five

The hype for LOTR Return of the King was really worth it… The movie is extremely long but to be honest, I only looked at my watch one time because the plot kept my attention and eyes glued to the big screen. The ending is perfect… left me with a few questions but I think they will be answered when I finish reading the book. Technically speaking, I am still reading The Two Towers. I have read, The Hobbit and Fellowship of the Ring already. I would have to say that this is the second best trilogy ever, right behind Star Wars Episode IV - VI.

Might I just add that the trailers that we saw last night, which included Spider Man 2 and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, were the best trailers that we have seen in a long time…

Last week, I finished reading this wonderfully written book by Rosalyn McMillan called, The Flip Side of Sin. I enjoyed all of the religious and political references and for a rare moment, this book actually made me cry about four times. Now I am reading, Zane… The Sex Chronicles I. I might have to comment about this book in detail another time *fans herself* For now, I will just say that every woman with an open mind should read this book.

Now on to the Friday Five:

Still Here

I am going through that I have so much to say but do not feel like typing it out stage…

I got Moveable Type installed (hold your applause) and now I am learning the templates.

b2 will be up for a minute still while I figure out how to implement MT with my new layout *sigh*

On the bright side of things… I am almost done with Christmas Shopping, I only have a couple of people to buy things for still.

We are going to see Lord of the Rings, Return of the King tonight *two backflips and a headspin* Yeah, I am pretty excited about that.

I was sick yesterday, but today I am fine.

Let us see… what else…

I am hungry but I do not have anything to eat.

I am glad that Sadaam is caught, but what exactly is the next step?

I cooked some bad a.. fried chicken the other night. Finger lickin good indeed.

A really nice person got me this.

I still need to make my Christmas cards, so I can mail them out. Yes, I said MAKE *evil eye towards JT*

We still have not bought our Christmas Tree…

I saw that “new” Charlie Brown Christmas special last week. So where did this ReRun come from?

I need to make sure I bring plenty of tissue with me to the movies tonight… word has it that this is a tear jerker, and if you did not know already I am quite the sensitive one.

Friday Five

Friday Five:

1. Do you enjoy the cold weather and snow for the holidays?

No I absolutely hate cold weather, snow and ice. Since I do not have a car, I cannot stand waiting on the bus in the cold and standing in the snow and trying to walk on ice. Not fun at all.

2. What is your ideal holiday celebration? How, where, with whom would you celebrate to make things perfect?

My ideal holiday celebration would include my immediate family; Mama, Daddy, Dot, JT, my brother, Papa (grandfather), Bom (grandmother) and Big Bom (great grandmother). Unfortunately that cannot happen, but you did ask for IDEAL holiday celebration.

3. Do you do have any holiday traditions?

We put up a Christmas tree every year. I must have tinsel and at least one strand of blinking lights or I have a fit. On Christmas Eve, we exchange one or two gifts… but one Christmas Eve, my brother and I went crazy and opened all of the “good” presents and on Christmas Day there was nothing really left to open… maybe a pair of socks and underwear here and there lolol

4. Do you do anything to help the needy?

I donote money to the CFC Campaign every pay period.

5. What one gift would you like for yourself?

This camera right here… *long deep sigh* Yes, I am referring to the Canon 6.3MP Digital Rebel *drool* Note that, I also have this on my wishlist.

Monday Mission 3.49

1. Do you have any vacation time from work saved up for the Holidays? Or are you taking any time off or traveling this month? What are your plans?

No vacation this month, but next month I requested off for my birthday (January 27th) and JT’s birthday (February 9) two weeks later.

2. When do you do most of your blogging? During the day, at work, at home, at night?

Usually in the morning at work, but lately any chance I can get lol

3. What tends to keep you from blogging more? Or could it be that you blog too much and should do less?

Pure and absolute laziness keeps me from blogging more *adds this New Year’s Resolution list*.

4. Do you like dressing up and/or “role playing?”

Yes, I love to dress up but I hate the preparation that goes into it. I need my own personal beautician and make up artist. Then I would be just fine…

5. When choosing a mate, there are some things you can overlook (boob size, hairy backs, beer belly, bad teeth, hair lip, etc.) and some things you just can’t (see previous list). What are some of thing things you can live with when picking your partner, and what are the things that are a “must have?”

Ruben Studdard tries to reclaim spotlight… tries is the key word and in my opinion, he failed miserably. Next time to develop your own style Ruben. I rate this a 1.5 out of 5.

Japan to send troops to Iraq… umm why?? This is really out of hand…

“Article nine of the constitution forbids Japan’s military — the Self-Defense Forces — from waging war overseas. Opponents of the troop dispatch are concerned that owing to the security situation in Iraq, Japanese forces may be drawn into combat.

No Japanese soldier has fired a shot in combat or been killed in an overseas mission since World War II despite roles in international peacekeeping missions, such as in East Timor, which were made possible by a 1992 law.”

Boston Public Episode

Racial profiling…

Last week’s episode of Boston Public covered a very important issue in United States.

Bear with me if you already have seen the episode. During the episode, Vice Principal Guber was investigating the history of viewed sites in the library. Although his primary target was pornographic sites, Guber happened to come across one viewed site that was a terrorist site written in Arabic. The site had several September 11 still shots, e.g. the planes hitting the World Trade Center. Principal Harper, contrary to Guber, immediately thought that he may be dealing with a potential threat in his school. Guber proposed that a student may have visited the site for research or simply out of curiosity. Harper, anxious to protect the school and the students, immediately called the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The special agent assigned to the case, immediately arrived at the school and determined every individual student that had accessed the website. Only a few students were on the list, but of course what stood out was that a young Arab student named Khalid (I think) had accessed the site five times. The special agent decided to investigate Khalid first. Harper, immediately yelled out, “This is racial profiling!” In defense, the agent stated that questioning Khalid first is logical since he speaks Arabic and she reminded Harper to let her do her job since he was the one who called. Reluctantly, Harper backed away. Okay at this point I was thinking how stupid it would be to have the Federal Bureau of Investigation send an agent to a case and the agent did not know how to speak Arabic. I am certain they would not do that; therefore, why question the Arab student first?

Racial Profiling.

The Cookoff

Saturday, JT almost forgot that he had a chili cook off to participate in at work. Early that morning he rushed over to Schnucks and Shop N Save to get the ingredients he needed… ground beef, green onions, kidney beans, green peppers, chilli peppers and the secret ingredient… habanero peppers. Yes, habenero peppers are known as one of the four hottest peppers in the world and some identify them as the hottest. As soon as he lifted the top of the jar, my nose was on fire. I ran out of the kitchen and quickly went back to bed, hiding under the covers.

The chili preparation time took JT about an hour and a half total. JT set aside a special batch of chili for me and his mom because we refuse to eat chili with beans. Yuck yuck yuck, you cannot make me eat chili with beans!! And do not try to tell me it is not chili if it does not have beans. I have had enough debates about this to last me a lifetime. Anyway, I did not want to sample a taste of the sauce alone, because frankly I was scared lol… after my special batch was complete, JT came over to me with a little of it in a spoon. He blew it off for me to cool it off, I reluctantly leaned over, placed my mouth over the spoon and slowly sipped the chili. Temperature wise, the chili was still hot so that is what hit me first… then the peppers kicked in… and they literally kicked in. My chest felt like it was on fire and I started to scream. I honestly have never had a food that was that spicy hot… goodness gracious. JT was guaranteed for victory.

Not Exactly a Scam…

I received the following forward:

FW: 809 area code scam memo

MAJOR SCAM:

Don’t respond to Emails, phone calls, or web pages which tell you to call an “809″ area Phone Number.

HERE’S HOW IT WORKS:

You will receive a message on your answering machine or your pager,
which asks you to call a number beginning with area code 809. The reason you’re asked to call varies. It can be to receive information about a family member who has been ill, to tell you someone has been arrested, died, to let you know you have won a wonderful prize, etc. In each case, you are told to call the 809 number right away. Since there are so many new area codes these days, people unknowingly return these calls. If you call from the US, you will apparently be charged $2,425 per-minute. Or, you’ll get a long recorded message. The point is, they will try to keep you on the phone as long as possible to increase the charges. Unfortunately, when you get your phone bill, you’ll often be charged more than $24,100.00.

WHY IT WORKS:

The 809 area code is located in the British Virgin Islands (The Bahamas).

The 809 area code can be used as a “pay-per-call” number, similar to 900 numbers in the US. Since 809 is not in the US, it is not covered by U.S. regulation of 900 numbers, which require that you be notified and warned of charges and rates involved when you call a “pay-per-call” number. There is also no requirement that the company provide a time period during which you may terminate the call without being charged.

We recommend that no matter how you get the message, if you are asked to call a number with an 809 area code, DON’T. It’s important to prevent becoming a victim of this scam, since trying to fight the charges afterwards can become a real nightmare.

Of course with my investigative self, I decided to research this because we all know almost every forward out there is not legit.

Poor Thang

Celie, should find this funny, I think it happened to her once when she had her hair died blonde LOL…

A young blonde woman in St. Louis, MO was so depressed that she decided to end her life by throwing herself into the Mississippi River. She went down to the docks and was about to leap into the frigid water when a handsome young sailor saw her tottering on the edge of the dock crying.

He took pity on her and said, “Look, you have so much to live for. I’m off to Europe in the morning, and if you like, I can stow you away on my ship. I’ll take good care of you and bring you food every day.” Moving closer, he slipped his arm around her shoulder and added, “I’ll keep you happy, and you’ll keep me happy.”

The girl nodded yes. After all, what did she have to lose? Perhaps a fresh start in Europe would give her life new meaning. That night, the sailor brought her aboard and hid her in a lifeboat. From then on, every night he brought her three sandwiches and a piece of fruit, and they made passionate love until dawn.

Three weeks later, during a routine inspection, she was discovered by the captain. “What are you doing here?” the captain asked. I have an arrangement with one of the sailors,” she explained. “I get food and a trip to Europe, and he’s screwing me.”

“He certainly is,” the captain said. “This is the Casino Queen, and we never leave East St. Louis!”
