No Entry
November 13th, 2003
Here is my first shot at Theme Thursday. Today, the theme is “No Entry.”
“…but, the bus was on its way”:
While waiting on the bus I decided to take some pictures of one the biggest (and it may be the biggest) Catholic churches in Saint Louis at the corner of Grand and Lindel. This church is so beautiful… I wanted to go inside and explore but I just could not… because my bus was on its way. Despite my bus on its way, I imagine that the wedding party inside would not want me to intrude on the ceremony with my fascination of the church decor.

Veterans Day 2003
November 11th, 2003
Happy Veterans Day to the Veterans of my life, past and present; Ardie, Robert and JT. Ardie and Robert are my maternal and paternal grandfathers respectively. They are deceased, but I continue to hold them dear to my heart. If you did not know by now *smile*, JT is the love of my life and he too served our country. They are my heroes. Today, I pay my respect to them and every other Veteran that has served for the United States Military, with this Veterans Day entry.
In 1938, Act 52 declared November 11th, Armistice Day, a national holiday. Armistice Day was originally a day giving universal recognition to the celebrated ending of World War I on November 11, 1918. If the idealistic hope had been realized that World War I was “the War to end all Wars,” November 11 might still be called Armistice Day. But only a few years after the holiday was proclaimed, war broke out in Europe. Sixteen and one-half million Americans took part. Four hundred seven thousand of them died in service, more than 292,000 in battle. After World War II and the Korean War, President Eisenhower signed a bill declaring November 11 as Veterans Day. Veterans Day now honored all veterans who have served America in all wars. A law passed in 1968 changed the national commemoration of Veterans Day to the fourth Monday in October. It soon became apparent, however, that November 11 was a date of historic significance to many Americans. Therefore, in 1978 Congress returned the observance to its traditional date.
Whether or not you have family that served our country during war, I encourage all of you to give thanks to the men and women who have fought for all Americans.

Papa, my maternal grandfather during WWII.

Papa and I. I think I was about two or three years old here.

I am a Bum
November 10th, 2003
Despite what you all have said about my Bokeem fetish, my decision remains the same. Even JT contemplated dumping me over it ROFL (see comments from 11.07.03). Perhaps if his grill was not so messed up you all could understand lol or not. I stick to my word and that is my final answer!!
I cannot believe that Boog and my own JT, used to roll up their jeans *rolls eyes* What was the matter with you two?? Well I have to admit that I did try that out like two times, just to see what the big deal about it was. I just could not get it… so I stopped trying. That was not a fad for me. Even if New Edition and The Boyz did it, this does not make it right!! lol
To answer Boog, I got made fun of nonstop in middle school and high school for eating cottage cheese. Remember in the lunch lines, how you had your selections of side dishes? I always chose cottage cheese, when it was available… and if they had cottage cheese and peaches together, then I was ecstatic. Aunt Dot first got me eating cottage cheese. The taste is so hard for me to describe. Simply stated, my friends always say I eat bird shit when I eat cottage cheese. Nooooo it does not taste like that. Try it, either you like it or you do not. There is no middle ground with cottage cheese. Do any of you use cottage cheese in your lasagna? I actually prefer cottage cheese in my lasagna over ricotta cheese. Ricotta cheese makes me want to blow chunks *ugh*.
Friday Five
November 7th, 2003
Seems like I have not done a Friday Five in a long time, so here we go…
1. What food do you like that most people hate?
Cottage Cheese and Broccoli, but of course not together.
2. What food do you hate that most people love?
Beans in general. The only beans I eat are green beans and baked beans. That is it!!
3. What famous person, whom many people may find attractive, is most unappealing to you?
Britney Spears. Well she is the first person that I could think of… I will add another later if they come to mind.
4. What famous person, whom many people may find unappealing, do you find attractive?
Bokeem Woodbine. Again, the first person I could think of. He is sexy in a semi-thug kind of way *shrugs*
5. What popular trend baffles you?
In middle school, I never understood why kids rolled their blue into tight little roll ups. Current trends or recent ones… I cannot stand when guys have their pants sagging. So unattractive!! I hate it when women get yarn braided into their hair with dookie braids *ugh* Not really feeling those jersey dresses. JT says I would look nice in one… LOL. I think I will need to add some more here later as well.
I will be back with another post. *smile*
Beautiful Weather and Stuff
November 4th, 2003
Where has the year gone? It is November (fourth) already??
In the past four days, the weather has been extraordinarily amazing for this time of year… about 70 – 75 degrees each day. Now I really wish that St. Louis’ autumn and winter weather could be like that during the entire seasons. I guess I need to move to Florida for something like that huh? No thanks, because I cannot handle all the potential hurricanes and such. But perhaps a winter home there when I get rich *mental note* This morning the weather lady was already telling how all the nice weather will be over real soon *sigh*
Last night was the dreadful laundry day. I look forward to the day when we will have our own washer and dryer in a townhouse or house. I swear the dryers at the laundromat are drying slower and slower each time I go. They dry in twelve minute cycles. The drying is free, but the owner claims that if you stick a quarter in, the time will extend and your clothes will dry faster. Whatever… I will just hit the cycle for free when it is over. I think they get enough money from me already with the washing machines; $4.75 for the large one and $3.75 for the medium. All of the colors fit in the large and our whites fit in the medium. After spending $8.50 on washing the clothes, I am not so willing to pay extra to only extend the time of the drying. Besides, when I take a ten dollar bill to the mat, the extra dollar fifty is for JT and I to play Pac-Man. I was victorious once again in Pac-Man by the way. I celebrated my victory by singing Queen, “We Are the Champions.”
Tomorrow, JT and I will be at the premiere of Matrix Revolutions *cheers* Honestly, if this final episode of The Matrix is not better than Matrix Reloaded, I will probably initiate some sort of riot in the theatre lol We should be hitting up Ruby Tuesdays right after I get off from work too. Two for one all day everyday!! *UNF* Mudslidesssss are delicious.
I just noticed that I am telling you series of events in no sort of logical time order. Oh well, you can still keep up right? lol
Last Sunday, I spent way too much time at Best Buy. For someone like me that loves gadgets, I just should not be in electronics store such as Best Buy for longer than one hour. Well guys and gals, Sunday, I was there for five hours and I swear I studied everything from all of The Sopranos DVD collections to the latest Sony Mini-Disc Walkman. My wish list is probably in the three to four thousand dollar range. No, not probably… it is in that range. At the top of the list is the Canon EOS Digital Rebel 6.3-Megapixel Digital Camera. I thought I creamed myself when I saw this camera rofl… it was crazy for real. I had to contain myself from drooling on the counter. I am a lover of photography, so I know there are better cameras available. But for this price, I think it would be really worth my money spent. I could really pursue my projects with a camera like that. So let me start saving up… after Christmas.
I shall be back to tell you about my other wish list items lol, gotta head back to training.
[edit]
Man, I do not think my training could possibly be any more boring than it is. I slept nearly the whole day on and off minus the breaks. I am sure that does not look too swell considering my manager sits to my right.
Okay, back to my Best Buy wishlist. Immediately following the Canon digital camera and coming in at a close second another Canon. This Sony Pocket PC looks like a miniature laptop, perfect size, the screen swivels around and the quality of the built in camera is very nice. Third place, is the Sony Net MD Walkman player/recorder. It comes with an AM/FM/TV-Audio Weather-Band Tuner Remote. Umm yeah… I am a gadget whore.
Am I the only one that thinks it looks a bit desperate to announce your own birthday on a forum?
