Monday Mission

September 15th, 2003

As promised… Monday Mission 3.37

1. What regular chore(s) do you dread the most?

Washing clothes, doing the dishes and cleaning the bathroom. This question sounds very familiar.

2. Have you ever tried any of the “tabbed” browsers like MyIE2, Safari or Mozilla Firebird? Do you like it better than a one-window browser? How come?

I have only used Internet Explorer and Netscape. I currently only use Internet Explorer.

3. Do you ever get criticized for being on the computer too much? How much time do you spend on the PC and/or on-line? Is it too much time are or do they just not “get” us?

Yes, I (sometimes) get criticized by my loved one for being on the computer too much. I spend a lot of time online. All day at work (eight hour shift) and about three to four hours at home. I do not think it is too much time online *shrugs*

4. In your opinion, what is a “self-starter?” Are you a “self-starter?”

A person who is able to initiate and take action. In the workplace, this would mean if something needs to get done, you do it or have it get done. You do not just set back and wait until you are told to get it done.

5. Write a Job Ad that describes you perfectly (as you are now, not as your “ideal” self) as well as the ideal job you’d like to get paid for doing.

Highly professional and educated woman. High morale, motiviation and strong leader in and outside of the workplace. Excellent customer service and communication skills. Outstand teamwork experience.

6. Do you take medications on a regular basis, or ever attempted to? Have they caused any side effects? Is it worth enduring them for the benefit you receive from the medication?

Two For One

September 15th, 2003

Another Monday *sigh*… just where did my weekend go?

I always thought there should be four, ten hour work days and three day weekends. Some jobs already offer schedules like that to people. That is the schedule I want because I think I would be less tired at the beginning of a week for work. I would not even need three consecutive days off… perhaps Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. Wednesday would be my take care of business day. Call the utility companies and go off about my increase in budget billing, do my homework, clean up the house and all that other good stuff. Saturday would be my socializing day and last but not least… Sunday, my ultimate lazy day; spend time with JT, watch football, a movie on satellite and take one of my infamous three and a half hour nap.

Back to reality, I work on a five day forty hour work schedule and I have to be at work in one hour and three minutes from now.

Saturday, the girls (Terenie, Jackie, Stacy and Rhonda) went out to Ruby Tuesdays to celebrate Tiffany’s birthday. We had a great time gulping down their two for one special on drinks. Let us see… I had two mudslides and a mango tango margarita. Mudslides, I already love, but that margarita was no joke. For about five minutes, I just held my nose over it to enjoy the aroma of mangos and tangerines. I was simply divine! I swear they took extra time to fix our meal because they wanted us to order more and more drinks. It was funny at first, but then I felt myself getting hungry and evil. I ordered something simple; the buffalo chicken tender platter (hot). Since I was loaded on liquor, I found myself barely nibbling on the food… so it was almost guaranteed that I needed a take home box for my meal.

We had a great time throughout the meal, talking about people in and outside of the restaurant who looked weird and scary (it was the liquor that made us do it, I swear lol) and a young girl with red curly hair in front of us in booth whom Tiffany and I nicknamed Annie. Out of nowhere I started singing, “The sun will come out… TOMORROW” and “It’s a hardknock life for us…” We were cracking up nonstop. She really did look like Annie.

On the way out of the restaurant I grabbed two coasters. I did not consider this stealing. They are only cardboard coasters and probably only cost the restaurant less than a penny. I grabbed one for JT, because it has the Rams football game schedule for 2003 on it. About an hour later, at Tiffany’s house:

Me: “Awww shit, I forgot my food at the restaurant.”
Terenie: “Where did you leave it?”
Me: “At the table.”
Stacy: “That’s what you get, your ass was worried about stealing coasters.”
Me: “SHUT UP!… Daaaaaang.”
Tiffany: “That ain’t shit, I forgot mine too… I always forget mine.”
Me: (I briefly chuckled at her comment then immediately thought about my food again)
Tiffany: “Don’t worry about it, get to drinking!”

Then I began to drink my amaretto sour that she made for me… but the back of my mind I kept thinking about my hot buffalo tenders.

Yesterday, the Rams beat the 49ers… and the Cardinals lost again *sigh*. I topped the Sunday off with a lovely baked chicken dinner with angel hair pasta and steamed vegatables. JT and I dived into the meal while watching the season finale of Sex in the City and the HBO new series, Carnivale. Sex in the City was great (as usual), I could not believe Samantha died her poon rofl… and I was ecstatic to see Steve and Miranda get back together. On the other hand, Carnivale, was not as good. This show has potential, but most of the hour premiere was dry and drawn out. We shall see what happens in future weeks.

I shall post Monday Mission a little later when the questions are up on the site.

It amazes me how people read too much into what you say sometimes. I find it extremely annoying when people do this to me. What are people thinking, that everything I say is a challenge to you? Listen clearly to what I am saying before you respond with a idiotic comment.

Friday Five

September 12th, 2003

First of all, if you have not already, I want you guys to check out hardCore’s September 11th entry right here. Very powerful facts regarding the tragedy.

Friday Five

1. Is the name you have now the same name that’s on your birth certificate? If not, what’s changed?

Same name.

2. If you could change your name (first, middle and/or last), what would it be?

I love my first name and middle name, but if I could change something… I would change my last name to my mother’s maiden name. I just do not like my last name at all. No offense to my father LOL.

3. Why were you named what you were? (Is there a story behind it? Who specifically was responsible for naming you?)

I was named after one of my father’s favorite jazz musicians. Several years later, through research I found out the musician’s name is actually spelled Rahsaan not Rashaan. I told my father but did not really get a response from him… it was weird. Nevertheless, I am named Rashaan and I love my name. I know that I was meant to be named Rashaan.

4. Are there any names you really hate or love? What are they and why?

I hate the name Felisha, it reminds me of fish. Anyone named after an exotic fruit, luxury car, city or a name spelled some crazy way when it should be something more simple… all of you guys should head on down to social security administration and get a name change with the quickness.

5. Is the analysis of your name at kabalarians.com accurate? How or how isn’t it?

Two Years Ago

September 11th, 2003

First and foremost Happy Birthday to my best friend in the whole wide world, Tiffany.

Secondly, condolences go out to friends and family members lost in the terrorist attacks on this day two years ago.

Wow, it does not even seem like this happened two years ago. At about 8 am, JT woke me up out of my sleep with a telephone call, informing me of the first plane crash into the World Trade Center. I was truly devastated and shocked… then within a matter of minutes, as I spoke with JT on the phone and watch the news on the Today Show, another plane crash was announced. I could not believe what my eyes were seeing. Was this real? I kept wondering was this a dream… but no it was real, two airplanes were hijacked and crashed into the World Trade Center in New York City. Then planes crashed into the Pentagonand an area in southwest Pennsylvania. Nearly two hours straight, I was captivated by the news. JT, my mother and I called each other back and forth.

Then, mentally things settled down for me around 10:30 am.

I will be putting excerpts of articles that I have found regarding the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) file sharing law suits here. You will not see much of my opinion here. For informational purposes only, but feel free to leave your comments about the situation(s)…

According to WhatIs.com, the RIAA is… (definition here).

Suit filed against one student prompts another to change

Monday, September 8, 2003

Princeton student Daniel Peng is collecting donations to pay his $15,000 music industry settlement.

On April 3, the Recording Industry Association of America filed suit against my college hall mate.

Daniel Peng, 17, a computer wiz who skipped two grades before coming to Princeton University, ran a campus-wide search engine that could be used to locate and download songs and movies.

The music industry slapped him with a lawsuit seeking potentially billions of dollars in damages for distributing copyrighted works. His site was shut down and his life thrown into chaos.

Dan, a junior, lived right down the hall from me last semester, and his plight made me rethink the whole issue of sharing music online.

Monday Mission 3.36

1. How to you get motivated to do something you really hate to do?

I take a deep breath, meditate and play some of my favorite music to get me hyped.

2. Have you ever been hypnotized? Do you think it can really be done or is it a mind trick?

Nope, I have never been hypnotized. Yes, I do think it can be done.

3. If you are married, how much did your wedding cost? Was it worth it? (the cost of the wedding, not the marriage, heh) If you aren’t, how much do you think should be spent on a wedding?

I am not married. I hope that my wedding is not more than $15,000 (and even that amount is pushing it) *sigh*

4. Have you ever looked for or bought a house? Was it fun? What is the most frustrating part of the process (looking, buying, all areas)?

I have not bought a house yet, but I hope to have one within the next couple of years.

5. Do you have a quiet place where you can go and be alone? What’s it like? Would you share it with someone or is it just yours?

6. Summer is almost over, did you get to take a vacation yet?

I was able to take one out of the three planned vacations during this summer. We went to New York for my best friends bachelorette party.

Twenty Two Points

September 9th, 2003

Received the following as an email forward:

22 Points to Live By

God wants spiritual fruit, not religious nuts.

Dear God, I have a problem, it’s me.

Growing old is inevitable, growing UP is optional.

There is no key to happiness. The door is always open.

Silence is often misinterpreted, but never misquoted.

Do the math… count your blessings.

Faith is the ability to not panic.

Laugh every day, it’s like inner jogging.

If you worry, you didn’t pray. If you pray, don’t worry.

As a child of God, prayer is kind of like calling home everyday.

Blessed are the flexible for they shall not be bent out of shape.

The most important things in your home are the people.

When we get tangled up in our problems, be still.

God wants us to be still so He can untangle the knot.

A grudge is a heavy thing to carry.

He who dies with the most toys is still dead.

We do not remember days, but moments. Life Is moving too fast so enjoy your precious moments.

Nothing is real to you until you experience it, otherwise it’s just hearsay.

It’s all right to sit on your pity pot every now and again. Just be sure to flush when you are done.

Surviving and living your life successfully requires courage. The goals and dreams you’re seeking
require courage and risk taking. Learn from the turtle, it only makes progress when it sticks out it’s neck.

Life is uncertain; eat dessert first.

Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.

Stirred Not Shaken

September 8th, 2003

A couple of things have me stirred up today. One it is Monday, never really cared for Mondays; two, there is a light skinned/dark skinned discussion going on over at 730 and Chris hooked up the thread with a link to the Willie Lynch letter; and three, Carmen’s revolution at her university.

The Willie Lynch letter… I vaguely recall reading about the letter in school but I do not recall reading the entire letter:

“The Willie Lynch Letter”

by Willie Lynch
in the year 1712

William Lynch was a white slave owner from the West Indies, brought to America to spread his ideas on how to keep an entire race enslaved for centuries. This is the beginning…

Gentlemen, I greet you here on the bank of the James River in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and twelve. First, I shall thank you, the gentlemen of the Colony of Virginia, for bringing me here. I am here to help you solve some of your problems with slaves. Your invitation reached me on my modest plantation in the West Indies where I have experimented with some of the newest and still the oldest methods of controlling slaves. Ancient Rome would envy us if my program were implemented. As our boat sailed south on the James River, named for our illustrious King, whose version of the Bible we cherish, I saw enough to know that your problem is not unique. While Rome used cords of wood as crosses for standing human bodies along its highways in great numbers, you are here using the tree and the rope on occasion.

God Does Not Like Ugly

September 6th, 2003

Happy birthday to my friend Jake.

Somebody is gonna make me do some shit I did not want to have to do.

For the past four weeks someone has been stealing our Saturday morning (St. Louis Post Dispatch) newspaper. The Saturday delivered edition comes in two parts; one has the bulk of the news and the other has all of the sale ads (and comics) that you would normally get in a Sunday five star edition. JT and I suspect that it may be one of our neighbors. Last week, when JT took me to my early morning hair appointment, once again only one of our papers were outside. Surprisingly, when he came home after getting his haircut, the other paper was mysteriously sitting at our doorstep. The delivery man does not come up two set of stairs and nicely sit our papers at our doorstep. He throws them suckas up on the grassy hill!!

This is clue number one that one of my neighbors took the paper.

I am not going to get into the other clues at the moment…

The problem is that my Mama taught me that you always ask for something, you do not just take and grab what you want. Tell me what the hell is wrong with just asking to use the paper when I am done? Nothing? Aaah okay that is what I thought…

Do not take what is mine without asking…

If you do, you shall be on my shit list…

God does not like ugly. Whoever is stealing my papers is being very ugly and I am going to act a damn fool when I find out (with hardcore evidence) who is stealing our papers.

It is a shame that I am going to have to get up early on my day off, set up my Sony camcorder on a tripod and record all morning activities through my blinds.

mis S n E X us (7:18:28 AM): I am highly pissed off about some moron stealing my gotdamn saturday newspapers
mis S n E X us (7:18:41 AM): I suspect that it is one of my neighbors
Jake (7:19:24 AM): ha!@
Jake (7:19:26 AM): kilem

mis S n E X us (7:19:56 AM): fuckers

I shall keep you all posted on any future related events.

Friday Five

September 5th, 2003

Friday Five

1. What housekeeping chore(s) do you hate doing the most?

Washing dishes and cleaning the bathroom.

2. Are there any that you like or don’t mind doing?

Vacumning and using my swifter cleaner in the kitchen.

3. Do you have a routine throughout the week or just clean as it’s needed?

I clean as needed. I think I really should start a routine.. like every Saturday or something.

4. Do you have any odd cleaning/housekeeping quirks or rules?

Regarding dishes, I prefer if people would rinse of their dishes before placing them in the sink. It makes the task much easier later. And if there are

pots and pans involved rinse out the pot or leave soap and hot water soaking in the pot.

5. What was the last thing you cleaned?

I used my handy swifter on the kitchen floor last night. I love that thing!!
