Ooh Look, It’s V

October 20th, 2002

Do you remember the NBC 1983 Science Fiction mini-series called ‘V’? As a child, the reptilian visitors (aliens) scared me shitless, but as I grew up, I could tolerate it. At this very moment, I am watching ‘V: Final Battle’ on the Action Channel (channel 532 on my DirecTV)! Yesterday, while Dot and I were talking, I began to flip through the channels to find something good on and I came across V. This was actually a pretty good show, but my only question is what the hell was going on in other cities like Washington D.C., for example, while the visitors were taking over? What was the President and U.S. military doing? Although, ‘V’ was no ‘Independence Day’, I still find it entertaining. Remember the young girl giving birth to the alien baby? Mark Hamil and alien births; now that’s quality television.

Doctor: “It’s a girl…as far as I can see, she’s beautiful..”
Mother: “Let me see.”
Doctor: “There you go grandpa.. she’s beautiful..”
Baby: “Waaa waaa…” *LIZARD TONGUE*
Doctor: “Oh my god”
Mother and Grandfather: *screams*
Doctor: “Ohh, there are twins…”
*Lizzard number two pops out without assistance*

Here lizzard lizzard lizzard

bwuahahahahahahaa what a classic.

Friday Five

1. How many TVs do you have in your home?
Three.

2. On average, how much TV do you watch in a week?
OMG, too much, let’s see I’m going to estimate that I watch over 20 hours a week.

3. Do you feel that television is bad for young children?
Yes.

4. What TV shows do you absolutely HAVE to watch, and if you miss them, you’re heartbroken?
I RARELY miss any of my favorites like Alias, Charmed, Angel and RAW because I tape all of them if I’m not home.

5. If you had the power to create your own television network, what would your line-up look like?
25% of it would be like TechTV, 25% music videos, 25% like CNN (but it would be REAL news), 12.5% drama/action shows and 12.5% soap operas LOL

Dora the Explorer

October 17th, 2002

I was introduced to Dora the Explorer today at work. Before today, I had heard of the cartoon only once or twice. I was surprised that nearly 80% of a room full of adults knew the theme song. Well as I thought about it, that was understandable because most of them have young children at home. Dora seems quite entertaining yet pushy at the same time, “Say ‘map’…say ‘map’ SAY IT, SAY IT,” it’s as if she isn’t pleased until you say ‘map.’ Dora also teaches Spanish. Reminds me of how Seseme Street introduced me to Espanol when I was young *taking a walk down memory lane.* And let’s not forget Dora’s sidekick, Boots, a naked monkey that only wears boots; he is funny too. Don’t ask why or how I was introduced to Dora AT WORK DURING TRAINING lol, that doesn’t really matter. What does matter is that Dora kept me entertained so much that for once I didn’t fall asleep during training. “YAY WE DID IT!!” *jumps around like a happy eight year old girl who just got $5 from the tooth fairy* It’s difficult to find a quality cartoon on television these days, so the next time I’m flipping around through my satellite, I may stop on Nickelodeon to watch Dora the Explorer.

No Attention Span Up In Here

October 16th, 2002

I feel bad because I keep falling asleep during training for my new job. My training is set up in a classroom-like environment and we have three different teachers. I’ve been doing my very best to stay awake the whole day. I eat snacks; granola bars, nutrition drinks and Slim Jims and I drink lots of water, in hope of a boost of energy and to keep me awake. Starting in the morning, that works about about 30-45 minutes then I’m back nodding off again. I think my attention span is severely short. I don’t actively participate or the lecture is boring I am out for the count.

The worst thing is when I catch myself right after a huge nod.. you know when you THINK you have your head propped up properly on your arm, but then BAM your neck and head jerks forward. I quickly look around to see how many people caught me falling asleep. Within the next 5 minutes, I’m wide awake, no problem. Ok, I got this, I can stay awake. Six minutes later… my eyes slowly close and everything the teacher is saying turns into a lecture from a Charlie Brown teacher. What is the problem? This is so frustrating because I actually DO want to stay awake. Lack of sleep is not a problem, almost every night I get plenty of sleep.

Do you have any suggestions? I need help lol.

Hmm, I can’t remember if I’ve had this in a journal entry before or not. Well, I did a search and it didn’t appear so… so hear you go. Archive.org has an internet archive that dates back several years. it is entitled the Wayback Machine and it surfs more than 10 billion websites in the archives. I had lots of fun looking up all of my old websites, including my first one in 1996. No, I will not post screen shots! Also, there is a site called Dejavu.org that let’s you experience the history of the web.

Shark Is Tasty

October 14th, 2002

I went to lunch with JT and his mom today at Syberg’s downtown. I had a taste of shark for the first time *shivers* haha it wasn’t bad at all. I was frightened like it was going to taste horrible. On the contrary, the shark actually had a very unique taste to it. The shark was grilled and it kind of melted away in my mouth. I’m not sure if I can handle a whole dinner of it yet but I don’t mind stealing a little bit from JT’s plate hehe.

Okay, so I’m watching local news KMOV and they started of a with a ‘Meat Recall’ story. A bacteria caled Listeria was found on some deli meats in local stores. They say the ‘healthy population’ need not worry. Umm yeah ok, I’m healthy but I still will not buy any deli meat for a while so I won’t become UNhealthy. Doctors and news reporters will stretch the truth or flat out LIE way too much to calm the public down.

Truth Hurts’ latest single ‘The Truth’ is a great song but I was wondering is that R. Kelly singing the hook? If so, that must be why we don’t see him in the video. R. Kelly equals contraversy these days. Anyway, the song and video is still hawt.

504 Boyz- Tight Whips; LOL@Lil Romeo thinking he grown…

Stop the press, the St. Louis Rams defeated the Oakland Raiders yesterday. We are now 1-6. Celebrate good times!!

Meanwhile, the St. Louis Cardinals are having problems with the San Francisco Giants. I still got your back though, don’t worry.

A lot of my buddies from the kthxbi forum are on there hehehe. Join, it’s pretty nice. My screen is ‘nexy’ dur.

Now I must be off to catch up with nearly fifteen hours of recorded television shows.

Disgruntled Customer

October 12th, 2002

Warning: Disgruntled Customer

For those of you in retail, have you ever wished you didn’t sell a particular item to a certain customer? A sale that comes back to haunt you over and over again? That has happened a few times since I’ve been in the business and dreadfully it happened again this week.

About three weeks ago, a woman came into the store asking for a battery to an ancient analog cellular phone. Firstly, I helped her with what she came in for. I called and found out that I could order the battery; it was not available in the store. Afterwards, I immediately start to tell her about our free phone offer. Nearly an hour later, I convinced her that our phone and the plan was a better deal for her (it really was, I didn’t lie). She was a bit discouraged about the phone because she said her [ancient analog] phone never gave her any problems. A digital phone is better–longer battery life, less dropped calls yada yada.

So I sold a phone, commission in my pocket until today (three weeks later).

Well, let’s back up to Thursday. I went into work on Thursday and somehow I knew a disgruntled customer was headed my way. My manager hands me the phone and it’s the woman who I sold the phone to three weeks ago. He debriefed me on the situation at hand and then I started to talk to her or rather she LECTURED me. She said she wanted to delete the numbers she had called. At first my manager and I thought she wanted to delete the numbers in the phone book, but I later realized she wanted to delete the OUTGOING calls. Don’t ask me why.

Over Qualified

October 10th, 2002

In the past couple of days at my new job, I’ve been thinking about this a lot:

Perhaps the only thing worse than not getting a call back or an e-mail from a job you applied for is getting a letter or a call saying that you are over qualified. Yes, I have a four year degree; a Bachelor’s from Washington University, but listen up kids. It’s not always easy to get a job in your field after college. I would have liked to have gone right to graduate school afterwards; however, I was mentally drained and it wouldn’t make sense to go back to go school and waste money and time. So after I graduated, I looked for a job and I looked and I looked and I looked some more. Either I wouldn’t get a call back or I would get the dreadful, ‘over qualified letter.’ Yes, I’m over qualified for your almost minimum wage ass salary BUT I needed a job. I was willing to work anywhere (except for fast food restaurants) to make ends meet.

Two years ago I applied to RadioShack because it was literally right in front of my house. For whatever reason, that manager didn’t hire me but he passed my resume and application on to a manager at another RadioShack. About a week and a half later, Adrienne (then manager) from the Broadway location called me up for an interview. Like many others, Adrienne asked why a recent college graduate wanted to apply there [at RadioShack]. I simply told her that I rather be working in my field, but I need a job to make ends meet. No sense in lying, just the facts. Adrienne hired me and although my experiences at RadioShack had been tough at times, I am thankful for her hiring me.

To stare at my degree on the wall and be jobless is one of the worst feelings I have ever felt. Not knowing how I’m going to pay my rent and other bills.

I am thankful for that one person giving me a chance even when I was over qualified.

Thank Goodness for the VCR

October 9th, 2002

Because JT and I are home at odd times, we tape several television shows. The fall season just began and we are already behind on watching the tapes! Two episodes of the Gilmore Girls, one episode of Angel, My Wife and Kids, The George Lopez Show, Alias, ER, Friends, Will & Grace, Enterprise, X-Men Evolution, Andromeda and three episodes of the Sopranos. Oooh lawd, I’m not sure if we’ll ever catch up. Let’s see tonight a new series called Birds of Prey premiers on the WB and another episode of My Wife and Kids and The George Lopez show. Thankfully, I will not have to tape The Bernie Mack Show, Cedric the Entertainer Presents and The Fastlane because of the MLB division series. But umm, thank God for VHS. Or, I could save up about $700 and get a DVD recorder for my television hahaha yeah right.

Speaking of the MLB divison series, I would just like to quickly say: Go CARDINALS. At least St. Louis has one major sports team to be proud of at the moment (*smh@the Rams*).

Three nights ago the weather drastically changed. Since then it has been as low as about 40 degrees each night compared to about 60-70. Ok, so I know it’s fall and all, but I am never prepared for the weather changes. My summer clothes are still all over my closet and dresser. Time to pull out the sweaters, coats, sweat pants and tights and take out TWO window air conditioners. I hate fall and winter!!

Last thing, doesn’t it suck to work with stupid people? Jobs need an official Stupid Person Division. I would have to say that working with stupid people sucks more than not having any sugar to make some kool-aid.
